An Easter Season Message

My dear Friend:

“Why do you seek the Living One among the dead? He is not here, but he has been raised.” (Lk 24: 5-6)

These words spoken by the angels to the women who went to the tomb on Easter morn summarize the meaning of Easter: Jesus is the “Living One,” no longer to be found among the dead. It is that event that is the foundation of our Catholic Faith; it is that event that renews the hope and the joy of the world in every age.

I take this opportunity to extend to you and your families my prayers and blessings in this Easter Season. Like the very first witness of the Resurrection, may you too know the peace and joy of the Risen Christ!

And thank you, also, for your commitment to the Church, and for your support of the Diocese of Providence, particularly in the Catholic Charity Appeal. Your generosity strengthens the Church and inspires us to proclaim the Good News of Jesus to the people of our own time and place. Truly, we couldn’t do it without you!

Sincerely yours,

Thomas J. Tobin
Bishop of Providence

With the cold days of winter behind us, we look towards the warmer days of spring. The days are longer and brighter. The flowers are in bloom. And best of all, the joyous Easter season has begun!

When Jesus rose from the dead, he gave us the promise of hope. That’s why, during the Easter Season, our faith grows stronger, like the warmth of the spring sun. God asks us to have faith and to believe in His promise that love will overcome hate … goodness will win over evil … Heaven will be our destiny.

For our caring Catholic Community, Easter is a time when we, too, uphold our promises to God. We promise to look after our neighbors. We promise Him we will sacrifice, as Jesus did, to help the men, women, and children who need us most.

It is at the hand of God, through the Church, and within our generous RI Catholic Community that we are able to answer His call to lift up the poor, to feed the hungry, to shelter the homeless, and to help our neighbors who need a helping hand in their times of need.

We look to the cross as a commitment to hope, love, and forgiveness. With the strength He has given us we can overcome life’s challenges and help those around us who depend on our Catholic Community for our caring support. With the warmth of spring upon us during this Easter Season, we celebrate and reflect on Christ's deep love … a love so deep that he was willing to die on the cross for us.

From all of us at the Diocese of Providence, may you have a blessed, joyous Easter Season and a happy spring! Sincerely, Robert Spirito Associate Director Office of Stewardship & Development Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…” —Peter 1:3
